YES guys, it’s official, it’s confirmed: the deal is sealed!
After finding out how much of a piece of shit cloudatcost is and consecuentially losing access to the VPS I paid 100 euro for back in 2018, I’ve decided to switch provider. I just wanted to set up a small dev environment, maybe spin a few postgresql databases, host some very small apps: the usual deal.
But then it hit me, if I was gonna pay for a new VPS I might as well just use it as God intended me to. So I did. I’ve set up a caprover instance and just blasted it with all the tools I usually rely on, but this time I finally feel like I really own my data, and it’s a great feeling let me tell you. This blog has also been ported to my new VPS and, thanks to web-hooks magic, it updates and deploys itself just like before when it was hosted on Vercel.
So yeah, I’ve removed all my dependencies from proprietary software and switch to free software solutions almost everywhere. I don’t know if I can ever reach the 100% fsf-approved software only goal, nor do I think I actually want to (I’ll talk about it in the future.)
But yeah, it’s been a really productive day :)
